Floors by Michael, previously Michael’s Floor Covering, proudly serves homeowners throughout Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. We believe in building on the tradition that began more than seven decades ago while also continuing to look to the future.
In 1951, original owner Michael started Michael’s Floor Covering in the off chance that he could leave behind a legacy that his children, and his children’s children, could grow and cherish for years to come. When his son, Tim Michael took over the business in 1984, Michael could rest easy knowing that his legacy was set.
For 30 more years, Tim and Michael’s Floor Covering were a pillar in the Fort Wayne community. Right off Main Street, no one could miss the yellow sign as they drove through. The company offered not only quality flooring at affordable prices, but also a long-lasting friendship to all customers.
In 2026, Tim decided it was time to retire and hand the reins over to a new owner who could continue to grow the business while maintaining the quality of work the community had come to know. He sold Michael’s Floor Covering to Victor Smolyanov, a roofer from Metro Detroit who knew how to provide an excellent experience to home service customers.
Victor started Victor’s Roofing in 2015 after working for years on his father’s roofing crew. Victor wanted his work to impact customers directly, while also creating a legacy for his family, just like Michael in 1951. Upon setting out on his own roofing venture, Victors grew to be one of the largest roofing companies in the Midwest by 2026.
Fate would have it that when Victor was looking to expand from roofing, Tim had started to look for a new buyer. After extensive conversations, Victor and Tim built a trust and respect for what the other had accomplished, and the sale was official.
Under the new ownership of Victor and his experienced team, Michael’s Floor Coverings got a brand refresh to Floors by Michael. In the short time since the rebrand, Floors by Michael has expanded outside of Fort Wayne to now service Metro Detroit in Michigan and the Toledo, Ohio area.
Victor’s vision is to ensure that Tim and his father’s vision of creating a long lasting legacy is held intact through professionalism, quality products, and amazing customer experience. Not simply by offering crazy discounts that mean nothing to the customer, but by building relationships and giving homeowners an experience and floors they love.
